Airstream Inc. has announced a recall of one of its more popular touring coaches, the Avenue. The model years of those being recalled are from both 2011 and 2012, specifically those built between 10 May 2010 through 29 July 2011.
The problem is a defect in the driver’s and front passenger’s seat swivel system. A locking pin within the mechanism can loosen over time. If the pin becomes loose enough, it could disconnect from the seat swivel mechanism. This creates a serious safety hazard. If the vehicle is in operation driving down the road when the pin disengages from either chair, the seat would become unrestrained and swivel freely without warning. This could lead to a crash, serious injury or death, particularly if the driver’s seat gives out while driving. Airstream is notifying owners and authorized dealerships will replace the defective touring coaches FREE OF CHARGE.
