In another case of looks & style conflicting with safety in the automotive industry, Volkswagen of America Inc. installed excessively long stainless steel exhaust-pipes for decorative appeal in their newly redesigned Jetta sedans. In total, 30,294 model year 2011-‘12 model year Jetta Sedans made between March 18th, 2010 and August 22nd, 2011 are equipped with these chic stainless steel pipes.

The new exhaust-pipe design has come under fire, as complaints started rolling in back in July. People reported getting burned by just grazing up against the exhaust-pipes. The pipes protrude in such a way that people could easily come into contact with it & if the engine has been running for a time, they will get burned.

Volkswagen dealers will begin replacing the exhaust-pipes for FREE.
